Cool Cat was written around 1981/82 and has only ever been released as a B-Side track, but now, due to popular fan demand following the song being featured in Olivia Wilde's directed Amazon Prime "Tache" commercial, Queen has announced that Cool Cat will be released as a single for the very first time.
The Amazon Prime commercial, which has reached over 25 Million views on YouTube, features a young girl, actress Morgan Quin, in her bedroom worrying about her appearance. Being spurred on by Freddie Mercury's individuality, the girl purchases a replica Yellow Jacket and is then inspired to eventually not care about other people's opinions, but rather embrace her uniqueness; much like how Mercury did.
Cool Cat highlighted the extraordinary vocal range of Freddie Mercury, as he sang the whole song in falsetto, which was the only time that he sang entirely in falsetto throughout.
Cool Cat will be released on 20 April 2024, exclusively for Record Store Day 2024, on a limited edition 7" pink vinyl single featuring a brand new, never-heard-before B-Side bonus of an instrumental mix of the track.
The release will be limited to 2,000 copies.
