Queen Quiz - Play The Game

Cover Artwork for Queen's Single Play The Game

Play The Game is a Queen single from their eighth studio album The Game, written by Freddie Mercury and released in 1980; it also featured on their first Greatest Hits compilation album. The song was performed in Queen's live shows between 1980 and 1982.

The band recorded all their material until Queen's album The Game without any synthesisers. Play The Game demonstrates the roll of synths by opening with a series of overlapping rushing noises, performed on an Oberheim OB-X synthesizer.

The promotional video and single cover sleeve marked the first time that Freddie Mercury appeared with a moustache.

In the video, Brian May did not use his Red Special guitar, instead, he played a Fender Stratocaster replica by Satellite. This was most likely due to the risk of sustaining damage in the shot in which Mercury snatches the guitar from May and then appears to throw it back to him. This was played back in reverse so that it would be easier for May to play the solo after appearing to catch the guitar.
