Live Aid was a two-venue benefit concert that was held on Saturday, the 13th of July 1985.
The concert raise over forty million pounds, which was placed towards the 1983 - 1985 famine in Ethiopia.
The multi-venue concert was organised by Bob Geldoff and Midge Ure.
The concert was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; it has been estimated to attract an audience of around 1.9 billion, in 150 nations who watched the live broadcast.
The concert began broadcasting at noon (BST) from Wembley Stadium, UK, with the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, USA, joining at 13:51 (BST). In total, the concert broadcast duration was over 16 hours; ending at 04:05 (BST). However, as many artist performances were conducted simultaneously at the two venues, the total concert length was much longer.
The most notable performance of the concert was Queen's twenty-one minutes, which was later voted the greatest live performance in the history of rock in a 2005 industry poll of more than 60 artists, journalists, and music industry executives.
