Queen Quiz — Body Language

“Body Language” was written by Freddie Mercury, and was the second single to be released from Queen's tenth studio album, “Hot Space”.

Following the success of Queen's single “Another One Bites The Dust”, Queen decided to produce an album that combined multiple elements of music, included disco and funk. Although, at the time, there was a backlash against disco music, thus making the album less popular with fans who preferred the rock style that had become associated with Queen.

“Body Language” had a minimal, sparse production, with the emphasis made with the suggestive lyrics, its distinctive rhythmical synth bass (played by Mercury on an Oberheim OB-X), alongside Mercury's moans and groans. It was one of just a few songs produced by Queen that John Deacon did not record on.

The official music video for “Body Language” caused a lot of controversy at the time, and due to the erotic undertones and nudity, it was deemed unsuitable for a television audience and was therefore banned from being played on MTV.
